La fine fleur de la scène gqom de Durban réunie dans Commando Mixtape

November 25, 2019 | By Panafricanmusic

The Gqom Oh! label condenses twenty bangers made in Durban into a mixtape featuring the major figures of the genre.

Inspired by the dancer Esi.J from the underground collective Gqom Oh! "Commando" draws its origin from a powerful dance movement that characterizes the content of this compilation. It features some of the most prominent names of the gqom scene such as TLC Fam, Griffit Vigo, Citizen Boy, Dominowe, Julz Da DeeJay, Mafia Boyz and many others.

The intention behind this project is to represent the sound of Durban and all the cultural evolution that surrounds it: from the importance of taxis in the propagation of gqom to sgubhu to gqom trap. As the ears of the world turn to South Africa with the international expansion of the genre, as evidenced by Sho Madjozi's success beyond its borders, this compilation brings us the latest underground innovations that gqom has in store for us.
