Reinventing Femininity with Maki Oh fall 2016 ready-to-wear Collection

January 15, 2017 | By Dynamic Africa

Delivering yet another “rich and multilayered collection”, Nigerian womenswear label Maki Oh’s Fall 2016 carries many of the same elements that were woven into previous collections. Speaking on the garments, designer Amaka Osakwe noted that though unique in many ways, this collection possesses a certain kind of darkness, in her hues and overall palettes, not unseen and unused by Maki Oh in the past: “[The collection] is quite dark, actually—as usual.”

Flirting with lines, layering and draping, mixing patterns, prints, colours and textures.

Her model sports a beautiful mound of an afrro and a bare faced make up look rich in earthy tones, accented with subtle highlighting. Both relaxed and cutting edge, though she strongly appreciates and incorporate traditional influences, she throws convention to the wind creating her own brand of femininity in the process.
