Osborne Macharia brings to life the Extravagant lives of Fictional Dapper Kenyan Grannies

January 10, 2017 | Dynamicafrica

Conceptualized and photographed by Kenyan photographer Osborne Macharia, the “LEAGUE OF EXTRAVAGANT GRANNIES” is a fun, fascinating and intriguing visual series that intersects the past with the present, and takes on interesting gender roles and representations.

Showing elderly Kenyan women in settings they are far from often associated with, each of these androgynously-styled fictional ladies occupied prominent positions in either politics or business before their retirement.

“This is the story of Kenya’s LEAGUE OF EXTRAVAGANT GRANNIES who were once corporate and government leader in the 1970’s but are now retired. They now live the retired high life travelling to exotic and remote areas within Africa to explore, Party and enjoy in exclusivity. We managed to catch up with 3 of them in Somlia soon after they landed. Little is known about them till now…”
